My Coast - Terrigal

Welcome to the nineteenth episode of my photo blog exploring my local area, the Central Coast. This week is my "T" destination, Terrigal.
T-Terrigal
Terrigal is a coast side suburb situated about 15 minutes drive from Gosford and is home to over 10,000 people. It was first settled in 1826 by the European Settler John Gray. He called his property "Tarrygal" after the indigenous Aboriginal place name, which means "place of little birds".

Terrigal is one of my favourite places on the Central Coast. It is a resort aimed at all generations of people, but is particularly family friendly. The main street on the waterfront looks over the golden sandy beach. If you look south down the beach you will see the imposing headland called "The Skillion" at the top of the Haven.

Around the Haven is a sports oval, restaurant and fish and chip shop. The area is hugely popular as you can walk from the Haven out on to the rocks and around to catch views from all angles round to Avoca from the top of The Skillion, and back up to Wamberal in the north looking out over the bay. The boat ramp is also located here at the southern end of the beach.
Splashy
Terrigal is a town under development at present. Around the centres flagship resort, the Crowne Plaza Hotel , are a large amount of units being built. These will be a mixture of holiday lets and residents. During summer the population is split between holidaymakers and locals. It is a much quieter place to visit out of school holidays, and much more pleasant.

I have a great affection for Terrigal. It was here whilst on holiday here three years ago that we decided to move to the Central Coast from Sydney. I really like the variety of places to eat and drink that are all located in walking distance from the town centre. My favourite place to eat is Four Hands Pizza. The choice on offer is amazing. They all taste great and you can wash it down with a nice cold local beer. You can get your ice cream fix at one of the many ice cream parlours. For drinks and live entertainment there are two main pubs situated at opposite ends of town, the Terrigal Hotel and the Florida beach Bar. There are other smaller bars and Sirens nightclub that keep the music going on into the early hours on weekends.

The beach was eroded in the massive storms that hit last year. Since then sand has been shipped in and the beach has been rebuilt. Erosion is a big problem in this part of the NSW coast and waterside homes remain in the firing line each time another storm crashes in.

Terrigal is a place we keep on coming back to. I love taking photos here as there is so much diverse scenery. Our kids love running along the pathway by the ocean and playing on the beach, but best of all they love the ice cream!I hope you have enjoyed reading about Terrigal.
